The Jim Abernethy Challenge

September 8th to September 26th 2025
Now in its 5th year, this challenge is dedicated to Jim Abernethy, who was an outstanding member of the Marsh family. An incredible leader, colleague and friend who sadly succumbed to lymphoma in 2019, Jim was an avid cyclist, loved being active, and had a competitive spirit. This challenge is intended to get you moving in honour of Jim's favourite activities. You can choose to cycle, run, walk, or choose any other physical activity you love!
To date the Jim Abernethy Challenge has raised an astounding $1,947,433 enabling LLSC to:
- Invest $5.1 million into the work of blood cancer researchers across Canada.
- Answer 4,396 calls & emails from people looking for support.
- Educate 7,611 individuals in-person, and 1,816 healthcare professionals, virtually.
Gather your friends and family and get involved in this fun 3-week challenge as we raise funds to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada, in memory of Jim.
How the challenge works:
- Register a team to compete in the challenge, which runs from September 8th to September 26th 2025
- Recruit team members (up to 15 people)
- Join the challenge launch
- Get active & fundraise!
- Celebrate the movement winners on October 1st, and attend your regional Light The Night event (October 22-26) for the fundraising awards

Jim Abernethy - Remembered Hero
Jim Abernethy was a charismatic lover of life who made an impact on so many. Losing our dear Jim to Peripheral T-cell Lymphoma on December 5, 2019, a mere three months after diagnosis, is something his family, friends and colleagues still find impossible to believe. Married for 36 of his 61 years and a proud father of three daughters, family was always a big part of who he was.
