Hello!
Welcome to my fundraising page! Here's a little about me and why I am participating in this fundraiser event.
I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in June 2018 when I was 19 years old. I underwent a stem cell transplant after two months of chemo and a week of total body irradiation. The treatment was effective for three years before I relapsed in July 2021 at 22 years old. I went through immunotherapy, a bit more chemo and finally CAR-T therapy. I participated in Light the Night when I was first diagnosed after recovering from my stem cell transplant, and now I am attending again after relapsing last summer and having recovered from my CAR-T therapy.
Without the fundraising and donations that go towards blood cancer research, blood cancer treatment would not be where it is today. Receiving the much better tolerated CAR-T therapy would not have been an option for me if medical institutions did not have the funding for the research they needed to do. I am forever grateful for the organizations and people who help the advancement of blood cancer treatment, because I would not be here today without them.
Any contribution that you can give to this fundraiser is greatly appreciated by myself, my family, and my friends. Every 24 minutes, someone in Canada is being diagnosed with a blood cancer. That's a lot of people who need treatment, and I want them to get the best and most successful treatment possible. Let's help make that come true for the 155,000 and then some Canadians affected by a blood cancer.
I understand not everyone is in the situation where they can give a lot, or even any, contribution, and that is okay. Another part of this Light the Night event is spreading the word about blood cancers and their treatments. I appreciate your time and thoughts that may go towards blood cancer research and awareness.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story!
All the best,
Nicole :)
(Note: The original goal was $1910.21, which was in correlation to the day I received CAR-T therapy: 19 October 2021. Since I have amazing people in my life we’ve already surpassed that, so onto the next goal!)
