Hello All!
First and foremost thank you all for taking the time to visit my fundraising page for Light the Night 2021 on behalf of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. As I’m sure many of you know it’s a campaign that is very close to home for me.
It’s been over 27 years since I lost my Dad, Edward ‘Ted’ Galvin to Acute Myeloid Leukemia. As a young child at the time, I’ve merely heard about the challenges he faced day in and day out as result. From intensive chemotherapy, experimental drug treatment and the worry of not being around for his wife and only son. After soldiering through for the better part of 3 years he unfortunately lost his battle against blood cancer.
Since joining the Executive Leadership Committee at the LLSC I’ve seen firsthand the difference they are making in people’s lives. From the support channels they have in place to the time and effort spent in developing lifesaving research to help to find a cure, or make one’s life a little more comfortable at least. I can’t help but think that with the progress in research that has been made to date he would have had a few more years in him.
My Dad was an avid golfer, as am I (although my scores rarely reflect that). In his memory this year we’ll be hosting another golf fundraising tournament with all the proceeds going towards the LLSC. We have a big target this year and need your help to get us there :)
Thanks for taking the time to read my story and I’m so grateful for all your support!
Cheers
James
