Welcome to our personal Light The Night fundraising page!
Most of you are familiar with the battle our granddaughter Rachel has fought against Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Just 4 years ago, there was real concern that the recurrence of AML would not end happily. But thanks to improved drug regimens and treatment protocols, the doctors decided to "take on" the exceptionally low survival rate and attempt a bone marrow transplant using her little sister as the donor.
Today Rachel is almost 4-years post bone marrow transplant and is a healthy 12-year-old, in remission and with a fully functioning immune system. And while we are hopeful that she will beat the 5-year survival milestone associated with this treatment, there is no certainty.
Rachel is just one of 150,000 Canadians who face the challenge of a blood cancer diagnosis. And, in Canada, they are joined by a new diagnosis every 23 minutes. These patients rely on research and support funded by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada through the "Light the Night" campaign. What better reason to reflect on how these cancers have or could affect you or your family and how satisfying it would feel to know your financial support might be the difference in their lives.
The need for research into new medications and treatment protocols and the important patient supports provided by LLSC continues. Our involvement - and yours - has never been more important to keep the incredible advances in blood cancer treatment moving forward.
This year Team #RachelStrong is back for our fifth year. In 2021, you helped us raise an astonishing $135,000, near the top of the "Friends and Family Teams" in Canada! Since 2018, our total support for LLSC and the thousands of Canadians living with a blood cancer is almost $380,000. Our goal this year is to "blow through" the $500,000 mark!
All donations go directly to the LLSC’s "Light the Night" campaign and tax receipts are issued immediately.
Thank you for your continuing support.
