Help us Support Leukemia and Lymphoma Fundraising in honour of Linda?s Legacy. This year we will again be attending the Light the Night event on October 22nd at Liberty Grand on the CNE grounds.
My brother Gord, his wife Linda and three daughters, Kelly, Jamie and Erin have gone through an unthinkable cancer ordeal. Sadly, we lost Linda to cancer in January of 2023 and we are determined to carry on her passion and commitment for the LLSC. Here is our story:
In November 2018, our 18-year-old niece Erin, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Her parents, Gordon and Linda, were overwhelmed and crushed by the gravity of this terrible cancer. Linda dropped everything and was there to support Erin during her treatments and recovery. Thankfully, with a donor match from her big sister Kelly, Erin had a successful stem cell transplant in January 2019. We are thrilled to say that Erin is happy, healthy and thriving. She is finishing her university courses at McMaster, going to concerts and getting on with her life. This is a true testament to the success of fundraising for research and the resulting innovations that are saving people?s lives.
Following Erin?s recovery, Linda turned her focus on raising donations for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) and their annual Light the Night funding raising event. Linda coordinated and led the Day Family team efforts. In August of 2022, Linda was diagnosed with renal cancer on both kidneys. Tragically, Linda passed away on January 18, 2023 and our team was renamed ?Linda?s Legacy.? Through the generous donations by family and friends like you, the team has raised over $75,000 since 2019.
Like far too many others, we have seen the devastating effect any form of cancer can have on the lives of the people we love. We believe that fundraising for research and improved treatments will help conquer this most horrific disease.
We hope you will consider a donation to help other families who have been affected by cancer, with a donation under the team?s name of Linda?s Legacy so LLSC can continue the leading-edge research and life-saving work that they do.
Funds raised through this Light the Night fundraiser will be invested in:
- Breakthrough immunotherapies - CAR T cell therapy, first pioneered in blood cancers, is now being tested in other cancers like breast, ovarian and pancreatic cancer.
- Precision medicine - targeted therapies for leukemia laid the foundation for personalized treatments now transforming care in lung, colon and other cancers.
- The next frontier - Cancer vaccines - research in leukemia is opening the door to vaccines that one day may prevent relapse and stop many cancers from coming back.
- Quality of life research - Studies funded by LLSC address mental health, survivorship and return-to work challenges - insights that will benefit all cancer patients and their families.
Thank you for your support.
