Team Tyson

Tyson found a lump on the left side of his neck and got it checked in January of 2024. He was first sent for an ultrasound and bloodwork and later for a CT scan and those tests kept coming back inconclusive. Thankfully Ty persisted and by September he was sent to an ENT specialist in Stratford, Dr. Hughes, for a needle biopsy and then with a pathologist’s recommendation, a removal of the lymph node for further investigation. A few weeks later, in the specialists office, he was told that he had a form of Lymphoma but at that time they were unclear of the type. He was then sent for more blood work, an MRI and a PET scan. Waiting was excruciating and the lump had reappeared with a vengeance, growing back larger than it was before, but quickly he was sent to LHSC where we met with his oncologist, Dr. To. There we found out that Tyson had Stage 1 Diffuse B Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Dr. To explained that it was a very aggressive form of cancer and that it needed to be treated aggressively, the silver lining being that it was a curable cancer and responded well to treatment. Within days, Tyson began his first round of immunotherapy and chemotherapy. After four rounds he was sent for another PET scan and on January 6, 2025, after his last round of treatment, he rang the bell and officially is in remission.

Anyone who is reading this and has gone through cancer treatment or watched a loved one go through cancer treatments knows there is a lot more to this story. The physical changes and emotional turmoil is very hard, something you would never wish on anyone. Now, every three months he anxiously goes for check ups to make sure he remains in remission. Today, Tyson is feeling great and back to doing the things that he loves.
