A little about Ajits Cancer journey:
2018-2020:
- First battle with Cancer (Acute Lymphoblastic Lymphoma).
- 2.5 years of Chemotherapy and maintenance.
July 2023:
- Hit the 5-year Remission Milestone.
- Considered a safe-spot with minimal chance of relapse.
2024:
- Relapsed Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
- Brutal treatment involving a bone marrow transplant.
- Ongoing maintenance and surprise issues.
2025 Update:
The year started off quite well. Ajit began getting out - walks, drives, gradually regaining strength (physical and mental), gaming, and so on. Regular medical check-ups and follow-ups continued. Things flared up between February and April with serious side-effects from some medication (fluid retention, lungs filled with water, kidney issues, a painful kidney biopsy along with some other painful scans and procedures).
Change in medication resulted in gradual resolution of some of these issues but some of the damage remains irreversible and requires maintenance for the rest of his life. At this time, dark thoughts settle in and two options were explored - sit at home in depression waiting for the inevitable OR continue what was started i.e. living and doing normal things in life.
Ajit chose the latter and made the decision to push hard and be out and about as much as his physical (and mental) condition allowed. This was NOT easy. Some of the 2025 adventures:
- a day trip to Prince Edward County in May;
- first-time meet up(s) with friends in June;
- a super-hero themed picnic-style birthday party surrounded by friends in July (which also marked 1-year post Bone Marrow Transplant - a major major milestone);
- a surprise and spontaneous long weekend trip to Montreal (another first and accompanied by our SUPER FRIENDS - you know who you are);
- more to follow for the rest of the year.
Choosing to live life One Day at a Time takes a lot of mental resilience. Ajit has chosen to do that and has communicated that feeling to most people who know him. He will continue the fight for as long as he can and will continue to live One Day at a Time.
LLS Light the Night:
This event means a lot to us. We walked for the first time in 2019 and have been supporters of LLS Canada ever since. Ajits physical condition did not allow him to walk in 2024, but this year... HE PLANS TO WALK!!! Come support us, come walk with us, and please consider making a donation to our page for a cause that is so close to our hearts. Every little bit matters!
Together, we will continue the fight!!!
Why LLS Canada?
LLS provides support for patients and caregivers during these extremely challenging times. LLS also provides funding and maintains partnerships with doctors and hospitals for life-saving research.
Ajit wants to be a part of the organization in some capacity in the near future to help in whatever way possible.
Thank You!
A big shoutout to Canada Life and the entire Canada Life team for taking this very thoughtful initiative in 2024 to support the blood cancer community, and for honoring Ajit (and many others) in their fight against cancer.
Fun Fact: Ajit means invincible.
