In September 2017, our lives were changed in an instant when our daughter was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Each September that has followed has been marked by gratitude for the extraordinary team at BC Children’s Hospital and to LLSC researchers that helped save our daughter’s life. Today our daughter is a strong, resilient, and healthy eleven-year-old who has been in remission and off treatment for over five years.
With gratitude comes our wish that other children and families can emerge strong and resilient from their cancer journey. We also hope that ongoing research may eventually reduce the number of families impacted by blood cancers at all. Every year, too many children and adults face a similar journey to ours - childhoods are interrupted, careers are paused, and families navigate overwhelming uncertainty. But thanks to the progress fueled by LLSC, there is hope: treatments are more targeted, survival rates are improving, and each donation brings us closer to a cure.
Light The Night is a special evening where communities across Canada come together to honour those we've lost, celebrate survivors, and show support for everyone affected by blood cancers. It’s a time filled with remembrance, love, and hope—a reminder that no one goes through this alone.
I hope that you will join me in shining a light toward a future without blood cancers. Every gift and act of participation is meaningful and greatly appreciated. Thank you.
