July 2 marks 42 years since my grandmother Margaret passed away from leukemia. That's 2,184 weeks that my father has gone without seeing his mom. This past year has been the longest I've gone without seeing my parents...by the time I see them this summer, it will have been 46 weeks since I last saw them. I can't imagine multiplying that by 47 times.
Introducing the Daw Family Fitness/Torture Challenge
For this year's Light The Night event, I've set a goal to raise $1 per week that my grandmother has been gone and to run/walk 10km per year that she's been gone. That's $2,184 and 420kms by October 23rd.
Now here's where the torture part comes in...
For every $100+ donation, I will dedicate a 5km run/walk to the person of your choosing AND will listen to a song of your choice on repeat for the entire time...depending on my pace, that could be anywhere from 30-55 minutes of torture.
For every $50-$99 donation, you can still torture me, but just not for as long...I'll dedicate a 2km run/walk to the person of your choosing and will listen to a song of your choice for the duration.
Finally, if I meet my goal of raising $2,184, my dad will join in on the torture and will have both of his legs waxed from the knees down in honour of his mom. If you've seen any of the #PoorBob videos before, you have an idea of what his reaction will be.
Of course, donations of any amount are greatly appreciated!
Our family has kick started our fundraising with a $250 donation, and we will match that with another $250 once we reach the $1500 mark.
Thank you for your help in finding a cure and improving the lives of those affected by blood cancer.
