Light The Night brings communities across Canada together for one magical evening to share stories, remember loved ones lost and pay tribute to our heroes, bringing light, love and hope to dispel the darkness of blood cancers.
I thought the past few years couldn’t get any worse. I lost my job and watched others loose theirs. Like all of you, I heard about the destruction COVID was doing on a daily basis, not only when it comes to loss of life, but to our heath, education and economy.
BUT THEN IT DID - IT GOT WORSE. After watching a friend kick cancers butt and beat incredible odds, we went from elation to devastation. My dad, my rock, my best friend told us the words “its cancer”. I remember sitting at my desk, trying to be strong for my family, but also wanting to fall apart in every way possible. It felt like my world shattered, but I couldn’t stop thinking - if I feel this awful and scared - how do my parents feel right now? So I knew, at that moment, that being broken was NOT and option!
But then more words came into my brain - “F U Cancer”. Not my dad, not now, not tomorrow, NOT EVER!!! And we all started to focus on - how do we beat this thing!!
With all the advancements being made, especially with blood cancer, I’m taking this as an opportunity to be a part of the advancement of science in honour of my dad - DISCO DAN. A chance to watch my dad continue to be my hero - and fight this thing until it’s gone!!
Help me, help my team, help science, HELP MY DAD DISCO DAN, FIGHT CANCER.
Say F U to cancer with me, and please consider donating today.
