This year marks the 7th year that Donald and l have been participating in the Light the Night Walk. This year we proudly join our son, Brendan's firm's team LARENTE BAKSH AND ASSOCIATES in our fundraising . 11 years ago Donald was given 10 years to live . Because of most important advancements in treatments of CLL, due to research ,this diagnosis no longer holds true. With his daily medications of targeted therapy he has a good quality if life. He has advanced CLL which is not curable but is treatable. Unfortunately his immune system is still extremely compromised so we have to be extra vigilant not only because of Covid but to any infection. In the recent month , he is in treatment for a hemmorage in his right eye. The cause of which still remains undetermined. This has caused blindness in the eye, which hopefully can be restored. He now receives a series of injections and treatments in the eye to reduce the bleeding, infection and inflammation. This may be a side effect of his cancer medication, blood thinners and low platelets. He will require surgery but he is much more complicated than a healthy person consequently surgery must wait for now. He still receives a monthly treatment IVIG to increase his immune system. Thank goodness for modern science!! He has this disease at a good time, when so much research has been done and so many new treatments have been developed but not without side effects. We are not there yet much more research is needed to eradicate this and all cancers.Thanks to all of our family ,friends and Team Larente, Baksh and Associates for your continued efforts so that much needed research can continue!!
