Welcome to “TEAM FOX”
fundraising page!
We are writing to tell you about a very important cause we are supporting in 2024.
Light the Night celebrates cancer survivors , honours those we have lost and gives hope to those facing a blood cancer. The money raised helps fund research and critical programs, services that help support Newfoundland and Labradorians, Canadians at every step of their blood cancer experience.
Our Hero, and light is our Dad, WO Kevin O’Keefe CD. “FOX”
Small in stature only, dad was a dynamic, intelligent, sentimental and stubborn man who lived hard and loved deeply. Loving father, simply adored by his 3 children, his devotion to us was unconditional and unwavering, always. His only granddaughter, Sara Kristina-age 14, was a shining beacon of light and love in his life. Poppy will always be her Hero!
Kevin, a proud Canadian Armed Forces(56th field engineer) Veteran, passed away on March 4th, 2019 @72 years of age from complications of Hodgkin Lymphoma. A solider throughout life, he faced an unforgiving battlefield with grace and humour, grit and fortitude, never losing his gift of gab or ability to amuse himself or others.
The late and great “FOX”, who resided in Mt. pearl for 40+ years was an active, concerned, proud and loyal citizen. Whether it was attending council meetings, volunteering with the Legion for the poppy campaign and calling Bingo, playing and coaching girls soccer, roller skating or giving countless blood donations with the Red Cross. Our Dad was a man of many talents, always giving- especially his opinion on Open Line. (Lol)
When our dad was diagnosed in September of 2018, the nurses on 4Na @ Health Sciences Centre provided my dad, our family, with a beautiful canvas tote, filled with educational material, home tracking guides for treatments, appointment calendars, a thermometer and links to websites throughout NL and Canada. It was so unexpected and so appreciated. Donations provide these resources, it’s something Tangible to grasp when the Diagnosis of Hodgkin Lymphoma is all encompassing.
2020 was our first year fundraising for the LLS of Canada as “ Team Fox”.
We are anticipating and excited for 2024 and the years to follow. The good ol’ days of collecting beer bottles, selling cold plates and sub sandwiches for soccer is old school. My Dad spearheaded many fundraising campaigns for the Legion, 56th field engineers and various other causes near and dear to his heart. It’s been said he did so well fundraising because of dedication, tenacity and continuous calling.....most gave in to keep him quiet, if you knew my dad, this rings true.
So I’m putting my talent and gift of gab to good use, I’m no Kevin but I am thankful for the opportunity to continue part of his legacy and make him proud.
Its impossible to forget someone who gave you so much to remember, his war stories, love for music we will always treasure. A big personality, such as dad’s, leaves a remarkable void in our head and hearts, as we continue our search for peace, we remember Kevin as a unique character, smart and sassy, sweet and stubborn with the greatest smile!
It’s been said that luxury is comprised of small moments of quality, in such case, our dad lived in simple luxury every moment of everyday.
May he rest in wonderment , while still being A Little Torment......until we meet again.
CHIMO.
