Well, it’s been a year since I was here last-raising funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada and “Holy Cow” this is hard to write for some reason!
It has been just over a year since I was declared in remission. As you know, things were turned upside down in March of 2023 when I was diagnosed with Type B Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. I experienced 6 cycles of chemo, several rounds of blood work, scans/tests, and countless medications for pain, sleeping, and reacting to the chemo. The care provided by my Oncology Team at the General Hospital was and continues to be remarkable.
This journey for Tammy, Matthew, Meredith and I unfortunately isn’t over. We have in the back of our minds how this lymphoma can and likely will return in one form or another. This plays with our emotional and mental health on occasion but it certainly will not define us moving forward and we are ready to fight and persevere again if we need to. The biggest comfort throughout this journey has been the phenomenal support we have received along the way; it’s been nothing short of amazing.
Our family will participate in Light the Night, an event to bring the blood cancer community together to show those affected by a blood cancer that they are not alone. It’s a time to celebrate survivors, loved ones lost, donors, supporters, and volunteers. Funds raised support life-enhancing research, educational resources, and services and support for those affected by blood cancers.
We join our close friends on Team JuliaStrong, named after someone we all love dearly, Julia Miller, who, starting at the age of 12, valiantly fought Acute Myeloid Leukemia for 5 years. Her strength and tenacity to fight continues to be an inspiration to me and helped me stay strong and positive throughout my treatments. Her light still shines in the stars above.
We will be participating for Julia, and for all those that are touched by blood cancers. The aim is to raise awareness which leads to increased funding, leading to increased research which one day we hope will bring forward a cure. Please donate if you can.
