James Garner Reynolds
Jim led a life of many accomplishments. The only child of Isobel (nee Stewart) and Garner Reynolds, Jim grew up in Winchester Ontario helping work the family farm and store. Although farming was not a good fit for young Jim, he did learn a love of animals and of showing them in competition. This led to a lifelong passion for breeding, showing and judging dogs. His tireless efforts would result in Jim coming to be regarded as one of the World’s preeminent all-breed dog show judges. His hobby and passion took him around the World, having been invited to judge not only at home and in the US, but also in China, Japan, Korea, Sweden, Columbia, the UK, Australia, Brazil and many other nations. He was most proud of being the only Canadian and one of very few non-American’s to judge Best-in-Show at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in 2006. Through these adventures his outgoing and larger than life personality earned him many friends who will miss him dearly.
Jim was also no slouch at his “day job”. Becoming a secondary History teacher right out of university, his career spanned more than 35 years and saw Jim successively promoted to department head, vice-principal, principal of a school, a central department, and a Field Officer with the Ministry of Education. He retired as a Superintendent of Schools with the Carleton Board of Education in 1998.
Despite two highly successful and accomplished careers, Jim was most proud of his family. Jim survived his wife, Marcia (nee Clark), with whom he shared a marriage of over 58 years. Together they had three children: Brett (Paula), Drew (Heather) and Christine (Matthew). As proud as Jim was of his children, he was a most proud and attentive grandfather to Jordan, Jackson, Morgan, Jamie, Rory and Bennett rarely missing a game, birthday, or opportunity just to spend time with them.
Although the loss of the big man will leave a large hole in the lives of many, his family takes comfort in knowing that he led a most fulfilling life to the very end and will be remembered fondly by so many.
A celebration of life will be held Friday September 13, 2024 between 3:00-5:00 pm at the Kelly Funeral Home Barrhaven Chapel, 3000 Woodroffe Ave, Nepean. A brief ceremony will occur at 4:00 pm.
