As you may know, at the end of 2020 our family was directly affected by a blood cancer when Janilea's mom was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Frances was a rock star and went through chemo and then a stem cell transplant in May of 2021. We were very fortunate to have wonderful care for her at the Tom Baker clinic in Calgary. We are so grateful to the nurses and doctors who helped us through this journey. We are happy to say that she is over a year in remission and doing so well.
When the word family is used we often think of our parents or siblings, but to us, family is much larger. For the past number of years a big part of our family has been our softball family. This family has brought us many great and long-lasting friendships. This tight knit softball family has been touched by a loss due to Lymphoma as well as a survivor of leukemia.
For both these family related reasons we have decided to put together a team to Light the Night. We walk for light the night for Frances and for our friends who have also been affected by various blood cancers.
Light The Night celebrates cancer survivors, honours those we’ve lost and gives hope to those facing a blood cancer. The money raised helps fund research and critical programs and services that help support Canadians at every step of their blood cancer experience. Hopefully our team can make an impact to assist with research and development of treatment options.
Light The Night brings communities across Canada together for one magical evening to share stories, remember loved ones lost and pay tribute to our heroes, bringing light, love and hope to dispel the darkness of blood cancers.
I am taking the first step and showing my support.
