Welcome to my personal fundraising page for the Man & Woman of the Year challenge, which my niece, Shari Leavitt, is taking part in.
I’d like to tell you why I am part of this campaign to help cure blood cancers, which leads to treatment advances for other cancers and serious diseases as well.
It’s about people I love and the power of research.
Several years ago, a very good friend of mine was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. I have been in awe of her dealing with her diagnosis and treatments, all while raising a family, working and being an incredible friend to me. I also have my own cancer journey which involved 4 surgeries, 24 chemo unit treatments and 30 radiations. And now… and now my niece Shari, with the most beautiful energy you have ever met, has come through Stage 2 Nodular Sclerosis Hodgkins Lymphoma and is approaching two years in remission.
Shari is fundraising to make a difference, in her words “for those who have had, or will have, cancer touch their life in some way. I’m fundraising to build awareness and courage for someone who has a lump and is scared to get it checked. Lastly, I am fundraising to change the lives of those affected by blood cancer today, tomorrow and 30 years from now.”
I am proud to be a part of Shari's campaign.
The Man & Woman of the Year Challenge
Man & Woman of the Year is an intense 10-week fundraising competition taking place in cities across Canada.
From March 24 to June 2, Shari’s team will fundraise relentlessly and fearlessly for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. The candidates who, alongside their teams, raise the most funds will win the prestigious titles of Man and Woman of the Year. Last year’s winners raised more than $100,000 each!
About Blood Cancers
Every 24 minutes, someone in Canada is diagnosed with a blood cancer. Blood cancers are the fifth most common form of cancer in Canada, affecting more than 155,000 Canadians.
With your support, research funded by initiatives like Man & Woman of the Year is making a difference. Blood cancers have had the biggest increases in cancer survival in the past three decades, and blood cancer research leads to treatment advances for other cancers and serious diseases.
