Elsje Larsen (one of my many family members taken by cancer)
Thank you for your interest in being part of this campaign to help cure blood cancers! My family unfortunately has a long history with cancer: My father's mother (breast/bone), father (stomach), aunt (uterine), and two uncles (brain and lymphoma) were all taken too early by cancer. It is with all of them in mind that I've chosen to support the Man & Woman of the Year Challenge.
The Man & Woman of the Year Challenge
Man & Woman of the Year is an intense 10-week fundraising competition taking place in cities across Canada. I am proud to support Kathleen Gnocato, my friend and former colleague, who has created an incredible campaign to raise awareness and funding for people that are diagnosed with, being treated for, or navigating a life after a blood cancer.
From March 24 to June 2, Kathleen's team is fundraising relentlessly and fearlessly for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. The candidates who, alongside their teams, raise the most funds will win the prestigious titles of Man and Woman of the Year. Last year’s winners raised more than $100,000 each!
About Blood Cancers
Every 24 minutes, someone in Canada is diagnosed with a blood cancer. Blood cancers are the fifth most common form of cancer in Canada, affecting more than 155,000 Canadians.
With your support, research funded by initiatives like Man & Woman of the Year is making a difference. Blood cancers have had the biggest increases in cancer survival in the past three decades, and blood cancer research leads to treatment advances for other cancers and serious diseases.
