I am that mother who heard those terrifying words “Your child has cancer”.
In November 2019, Shari was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the blood. Shari undertook her challenge with strength and courage and survived.
In 1974, my cousin was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. He fought bravely while being treated with the best that medical science could provide. He died at the young age of 25.
Blood cancer research since then saved my daughter’s life. I have that research to thank for her current health status – two years in remission with an excellent prognosis. I will be forever grateful to the people who funded and supported the scientists who achieved the many breakthroughs that contributed to Shari’s successful battle. For these reasons, I am enthusiastically proud to be on Shari’s team and to support her nomination for LLSC’s Woman of the Year!
