Hi everyone, welcome to my MWOY page! I am a PhD candidate in Pharamaco-Epidemiology at University de Montréal/Centre de recherche du CHU Sainte-Justine and founder of Scrumptious Oils. When I was approached, I knew within the first two minutes of that presentation that I would be on board. First and foremost, members of my family as well as childhood friends have been affected by both leukemia and lymphoma over the last two decades. Not all have had the same outcome but through it all, the LLSC was present. Also through the last years, i've been able to create a beautifully engaged community that surrounds me, be it in my day to day or on social media. It was a no brainer to merge this community as well as the need for fundraising and be a part of this campaign. I've had my fair share of cancer/blood cancer lectures through my masters in clinical pharmacology, they all left my brain wheels turning. Blood cancers are complexe much like the majority of cancer, affect multiple systems at once, and affect young children/teens more than we'd like. However, we've made serious scientific strides over the last decade to increase remission rates drastically, especially when blood cancers are caught early. As a passionate researcher of course I'd love to contribute as much as I can to research endeavours by our incredibly talented Canadian cancer researchers, but I'd also love to contribute to all other patient outreach task forces the LLSC takes on. Building a community be it online or "in real life" is no easy task. However, I believe that when a community is built on transparency, communication, and trust, so much can come of it. As a leader in the community, my responsibility is to support social causes and bring awareness to societal struggles. And beyond that, when I can ultimately help in a tangible way, like this campaign will, I will involve my community in any way I know how so we can work together on a common goal.
