Last year, I experienced a concerning swelling in my arm that prompted a visit to the doctor. A series of tests followed, including MRI, CT scans, and a needle biopsy, accompanied by the nerve-wracking wait for results. Eventually, I received the diagnosis: lymphoma. It was a frightening journey, fraught with uncertainties and fears of missing out on the typical experiences of a twenty-something.
Navigating through the ups and downs of treatment was far from straightforward, but I consider myself fortunate to have a strong support system rallying behind me. As a professional mermaid, I found solace within the vibrant community that shares my passion for the ocean's depths. Through my platforms on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, I've been able to share my story and find encouragement from fellow mermaids and supporters worldwide.
Now, I'm delighted to share that I'm "o-fish-ally" in remission. However, my experience with blood cancer has left a profound impact on me, shaping my priorities and aspirations. The journey made me acutely aware of the importance of research in understanding and combating this disease. When I was diagnosed, I was told there was little I could have done to prevent it, and treatment options, though available, lacked certainty.
This realization has fueled my determination to effect change. I'm embarking on a 10-week fundraising competition as part of the Visionaries of the Year campaign. My goal is to raise $20,000 to support critical research, provide vital services, and advocate for individuals and families affected by blood cancer. Blood cancer is a cause close to my heart, as it ranks as the number one diagnosed cancer in children—a reality that I'd really like to help change.
While monetary donations are invaluable, spreading awareness is equally appreciated! I need your help amplifying our collective voice in the fight against blood cancers. Your support during Visionaries of the Year means the world to me and the entire blood cancer community.
Together, let's make waves of change and dive deep into a future where blood cancers are no longer a threat. Thank you for your unwavering support and solidarity. Let's swim towards a brighter, cancer-free horizon!
