When first nominated to participate in Visionaries of the Year, I hesitated. The thoughts of self-doubt and lack of time started, but within 24 hours of being asked, I knew my decision. I had to participate.

As a mom to two young children, everything I do is with them in mind. Participating in this campaign is an opportunity to act as a role model, and stand-up for our community. It is a chance to create an impact that makes a difference and to show what happens when we lead with love and uplift those around us.

What struck me most about the work the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) does is the investment in life-enhancing research. Blood cancer research can be done at the cellular level, unlike many other cancers, and as a result, has seen great success in developing treatments not only for blood cancer, but all cancers. Chemotherapy is a result of blood cancer research.

Unfortunately, I am sure we all know someone affected by cancer. This is why I am passionate about raising funds which will impact beyond blood cancer. Funds which will fuel critical research within Canada, and ensure that fewer of our family, friends, and colleagues hear the words, “You have cancer”.

This is where the power of community comes in. I am asking for you to lead with love and help create a brighter future for cancer. Together, we can ensure fewer families receive these life-changing diagnosis and ensure that treatments are improved for those who do.
