“Cows run away from the storm while the buffalo charges toward it and gets through it quicker. Whenever I’m confronted with a tough challenge, I do not prolong the torment, I become the buffalo.”
- Wilma Mankiller
September 26, 2020 was the best day of my life as I held Bennett, our new baby, in my arms for the first time at the Civic Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario. It was just one short month later that I lay in the same hospital, once again, comprehending the news of a large tumour in my spine and wondering how long I would get to live to care for my son. Thanks to blood cancer research and innovation, I am here today to advocate for those of us impacted by this relentless disease.
Light The Night brings communities across Canada together for one magical evening to share stories, remember loved ones lost and pay tribute to our heroes, bringing light, love and hope to dispel the darkness of blood cancers.
I am humbled to be a 2023 Honoured Hero for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada's Light the Night Campaign in Ottawa. I invite you to walk beside me as we advocate to end blood cancer. You are invited to read about my journey here:
