The Jim Abernethy Challenge
Join us to honour Jim's legacy in the fourth annual 4 week challenge in support of the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.

September 3rd to October 6th 2024
Now in its 4th year, this challenge is dedicated to Jim Abernethy, who was an outstanding member of the Marsh family. An incredible leader, colleague and friend who sadly succumbed to lymphoma in 2019, Jim was an avid cyclist, loved being active, and had a competitive spirit. This challenge is intended to get you moving in honour of Jim's favourite activities. You can choose to cycle, run, walk, or choose any other physical activity you love!
To date the Jim Abernethy Challenge has raised an astounding $1,509, 218 enabling LLSC to:
- Dedicate over $15M in life enhancing research coast to coast
- Allocate more than 1100 travel subsidies to patients through our One KM at a Time program
- Match nearly 1,000 patients in our First Connections Peer to Peer program
Gather your friends and family and get involved in this fun 4 week challenge as we raise funds to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada, in memory of Jim.
How the challenge works:
- Register a team to compete in the challenge, which runs from September 3rd to October 6th 2024
- Recruit team members (up to 15 people)
- Join the challenge launch
- Get active & fundraise!
- Attend the celebration and awards event (in-person or virtually) on October 6th 2024

Jim Abernethy - Remembered Hero
Jim Abernethy was a charismatic lover of life who made an impact on so many. Losing our dear Jim to Peripheral T-cell Lymphoma on December 5, 2019, a mere three months after diagnosis, is something his family, friends and colleagues still find impossible to believe. Married for 36 of his 61 years and a proud father of three daughters, family was always a big part of who he was.
