The LLSC & Light the Night

LLSC’s mission is to cure all 137 types of blood cancers and improve the quality of life of people affected by blood cancers and their families.

Light The Night is a heartwarming and transformative event designed to infuse hope and healing into the community. It also provides a powerful opportunity for organizations to show their support, demonstrating a collective commitment to advancing research and supporting those affected by blood cancer.

Why This Matters:

This challenge is being championed by Kinji Bourchier (Partner at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP) and Laura Cundari (Partner at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP), co-chairs of Light the Night Executive Leadership Committee.

"In 2017 our daughter was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and we became members of the blood cancer community. Today she is a strong, healthy ten-year-old who has been in remission and off treatment for over five years. We are forever grateful to the exceptional team at BC Children’s Hospital and to all of those involved in developing the medical treatments that saved our daughter’s life. Organizations such as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society provide funding for this valuable research, and we are excited to engage the incredible philanthropic power of the legal community with the Counsel for a Cure Campaign to support the fight to cure blood cancer."

These are the leaders helping lay the foundation for change.

"I'm honored to share that I've joined the Executive Leadership Committee (ELC) for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC). This incredible organization is changing lives every day through leading-edge research, advocacy, education, and compassionate support for families affected by blood cancers. For children, it means treatments that interrupt their play and dreams. For adults, it can mean putting careers and family responsibilities on hold while facing an uncertain road ahead. Yet, because of the progress made possible through LLSC, survival rates are improving, treatments are becoming more effective, and hope continues to grow. Through the ELC, I'm dedicated to raising awareness, and helping fund critical work that moves us closer to a future without blood cancers."

Nino Maclang

Nino Maclang - Honoured Hero

In 2019, my life took an unexpected and terrifying turn—I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Classical Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. It was serious, and the road ahead was uncertain. What followed was a grueling battle that included dozens of chemotherapy treatments, a trip to the emergency room, and a three-week hospital stay for a stem cell transplant. But today, I stand on the other side of that fight with a new lease on life—I am in remission. I am cancer-free.
